Lilly’s on the Mend

Lilly seems to be getting better with the help of her medicines.  We’re hoping she makes a full and speedy recovery!  Nothing will stop her from playing with her favorite toys.

She’s Wearing Blue

Little Lilly is not at a happy puppy today.

The good news is her incision must be healing.  The bad news is that all she wants to do is itch and lick…itch and lick.  She made two big scratch marks on her tummy with her back paws just above her stitches.  We knew we had to do something.

After a trip to the store for Neosporin, we ended up calling Dr. T. for some suggestions.  She said it would be OK to let Lilly wear a sweater as long as the material breathed and as long as it covered the incision so she couldn’t get at it.

We just happened to have a blue knit sweater in the closet.  She pulled it up to her shoulders in about 3 seconds flat.  We solved that problem by wrapping her tummy with a bandage.  So far so good – even with all her attempts to get it off, the sweater is still staying put.

Next steps if this doesn’t work:  socks and an e-collar!

Wall Scratching?

Lilly continues to recover very well from her surgery.  Here she is just relaxing in the sun.

We have noticed a couple of funny behaviors since she has returned home:

-When I left to teach confirmation class last night, she howled like a coyote several times (according to my dad who stayed with her all night).  She was not in any pain- we believe she was just upset that I was leaving her again. She settled down pretty quickly and slept the rest of the night.

-She also decided to begin scratching walls around the house today at random times and places.  We are chalking this unusual behavior up to her pain medication and hope it stops soon.  This is a new one for me!
